A Little Bit of Heaven
A little bit of heaven floated down to the Motherhouse of the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles on July 16, 2013 the Solemnity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. In the beautiful Motherhouse chapel, located at Sacred Heart Retreat House in Alhambra, California, the excitement in the air was so tangible you could almost see it. Flowers were arranged, cakes were baked, rehearsals took place, and, above all, lives were transformed.
The families of Sister Gianna and Sister Maria Goretti began arriving a few days before the big day. Together the Carmelite Sisters, these wonderful families, and, above all, Sister Gianna and Sister Maria Goretti participated in a little bit of heaven. For it was on this great day in our Carmelite family, that vows were made. With a year of candidacy, ten months of posulancy and two years of novitiate now behind them, the two sisters pronounced their first vows in the chapel sanctuary.
What a blessed moment in time! Or should we re-phrase that to “What a blessed moment in eternity!” Our beautiful Sacred Heart Chapel is adorned with angels. Exquisite stained-glass angels surround the people, two magnificent angels from Italy (nearly life size) hold golden censors above the altar. Yes, grace in abundance flowed upon this suburb of the City of the Angels that day.
And the choir sang like the angels!
